The European Commission has presented a strategy to rehabilitate and renovate 35 million buildings and homes by 2030, with the aim of making them more energy efficient and contributing to meeting climate targets.
It is a sector responsible for 40% of energy consumption and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions, but only 1% of buildings undergo energy-efficient renovations each year. For this reason, the proposal gives importance to reduce emissions by 55% in 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Strategy priorizes for :
- The decarbonization of heating and cooling systems.
- Adressing energy poverty and less efficient buildings.
- Renovate public and administrative service buildings.
This project also aims to trigger a transformation of our cities, improving people’s quality of life, encouraging digitalization and improving reuse and recycling of materials.
