The Catalan city, under the slogan of One today, one Tomorrow, has made 2026 the UIA-Unesco World Capital of Architecture, addressing the challenges of sustainable cities.

It is a great opportunity to reinforce the role of Barcelona, Catalonia and the State, as centres of production and thought of contemporary architecture and urban design.

The choice has been decided in Rio de Janeiro, current World Capital of Architecture, until 2023, when it will be transferred to Copenhaguen. And three years later, the Danish capital will give it to the Catalan capital.

Janet Sanz, Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning at the Catalan Consistory, stated that the election will position Barcelona as a social, cultural and economic benchmark, leading the transformation for the creation of more sustainable cities.
